Camcorders can be very useful at this time of year; they are a great way of capturing the (often funny) moments that occur during the Christmas holidays. Many people prefer them to cameras as a photo does not also show the whole story but a video captures all the misdemeanours that may have occurred.

Digital camcorders have been around for many years and have many uses. They are used regularly in the media when reporters are away from the news studio, home videos for weddings and birthdays. After all, where would we be without the hilarity of “You’ve been Framed”?

Like cameras they come in a range of deals which vary in price. Camcorders can be technical pieces of equipment, but in a consumer environment where the emphasis is on ease of use and price, quality often gets put on the back burner.This does not mean that the camcorders available are not of a high quality though; it just means that customers can always find a better model of camcorder.

One example is the ability to shoot a video at night; the chip that is required for this is expensive and can add a considerable cost to the camcorder. Most people are unwilling to pay extra just to film at night so they opt for the cheaper option.

For someone buying their first camcorder, one with basic video facilities and simple playback features should suffice. If you are more experienced then you can look for the add-ons that will help improve the quality of the video (sound quality, night capabilities etc). Looking for a digital camcorder can be tricky if you do not know what to search for, look for advice on what to buy to ensure you find the right one for you.
