Anyone know where I can buy or rent the Canon XL2 for less than $3.6k in the Santa Cruz, CA or San Jose, CA area, or something cheaper with same quality? I'll e-mail my professor about this for his thoughts.

this digital 8 camcorder I have is a Sony TRV330 and I use it to playback Hi8 videocassettes, and I also use it to import the videos to my PC via firewire. since the videos were originally recorded in analog, the camera seems to "hiccup" and tends to cut off at least a few seconds of video at the very start of a segment. have any of you experienced this? so I then put the tape back into an actual analog camcorder and hooking it up to a different digital camcorder, to see if that would correct the problem and let EVERY SECOND of video pass through to my computer.... and it still cuts out at least 3 or 4 seconds of video. this is when I wish I could just hook up my analog camcorder to the computer somehow but of course that's impossible since it's not digital. is there something I'm missing that can correct this problem?
