Dr. Curious asked:

Are there any camcorders you would recommend for a modern day hobbyist?

Nothing professional, a consumer camcorder. I'm just looking for an upgrade from my 8mm.

I have 8mm and VHS-C tapes from years ago and those two camcorders no longer work. Is there a product I can buy to transfer the video to my computer to put on DVD?

whosanerd asked:

I have a bunch of old family movies on VHS and those little 8MM tapes that went into camcorders from the nineties. Most of them are on the little tapes.

For Christmas, I want to transfer over to DVD for my mom but there's a problem.

I don't want to send the ONLY copy I have of these tapes halfway across the country so some faceless company can turn them to DVD, with no guarantee that they won't get lost or damaged in the mail. I'd like to know where my memories are at any given time, and across the country is not a good option.

Does anyone know any stores that offer to do this locally? Maybe even in-store?
