Can you help me out please?
Outdated and need revival...?
Hi,
It happens that I had a 8mm camcorder back during the late 1990's, yes those that operates with 8mm tapes! LOL
While on vacation I taped many places and family gatherings which are full of beautiful moments.
Thing is that I lost the camcorder and now I don't know what to do because I want to play the tapes, but the new camcorders only play DVDs, and still the newer ones don't even need DVDs or tapes, they are played by memory cards. The 8mm camcorders are outdated and I want to watch my old 8mm tapes.
This is very important to me because my father passed away last year and I want to revive those never-more-in- life - moments that I'd spent with him.
Please tell me if you have an idea of what can I do. I will invest in the latest camcorder, but I still want to watch the tapes.

What should I do? Should I try film or should I embrace digital camcorders?
I am a cameraman, mostly in HDV, but I work too in Super 8mm film. I am trying to decide what to do next: to buy a super 16mmm film camera (Aaton LTR) ort a EX3, or maybe the 7D Canon . I want to try film but the cost of it plus the limitations of the film world makes me look at the EX3 as the next step. I have the mney to buy both. But before I would like to know some opinions of people who have experience in both mediums and what's their opinion regarding my question.
Thanks for your help.

Some general camcorder questions?
A friend will be buying a camcorder soon and needs some help in understanding which features are useful.
This camcorder will be a gift for her parents who live in Bombay, so it should be easy to use.
1. Which format is better for her? mini DV, DVD disc, or internal hard disk? I don't know anything about their reliability, but my concern was that DVD and internal hard disks may not be able to tolerate shocks much. I have an old Hi-8mm camcorder, and it has worked flawlessly for 15 years, so I am inclined to recommend mini DV.
2. This is important. Do digital camcorders come with software that easily allows downloading of the videos to home computers via USB? Ideally it should be as easy as downloading photos from a digital camera.
3. Is there any use to having 30x optical zoom? I doubt anyone can hold their hands steady enough for it to be useful.
4. Her budget is about $500.
